Do you think baby will be a girl or boy?

March 9, 2010

Sigh of relief :)

So today was the (mildly dreaded) anesthesiologist appointment to see if I am actually eligible for an epidural. My appointment was at 11:30 but they were running behind so I didn't get to see the guy until 1:15pm. That's ok though, he was really nice, went over my history (just like every other doctor/nurse/etc that I see) and then checked my scar and such to see what the likelihood of the epidural was. As it turns out, I am able to have my epidural (which I know I will want) but it was close...if my incision/scarring had been just a bit longer then I would have been out of luck. Lucky me!!

Anywho, that's my excitement for the morning. Though I must say that if one more random person tells me that I should try and do it drug free because I'll be so proud of myself (these typically aren't people I know, just people I strike up conversation with while waiting forever and a day for appointments) I might hit them, lol. Probably not, but I would really like to :) Labour is painful, and yes, back in the day everyone did it without drugs, but that doesn't mean that I can't take advantage of the medical advances we have now. I think I'll just be pretty darn proud of myself for having a kid and personally I don't care how it gets accomplished. My goal is a healthy baby, other than that, I have no birth plan. I'm not going to get a gold medal for making myself go through the pain so please stop telling me the best way to do this. I'm not saying that people who do go the drug free way are wrong, not at all, but it's just not for me. Each and every person is different and the best way to give birth is different for each woman. So let's not push our opinions on everyone else :) (okay, vent over lol).

So that's all for now, we have our hospital tour tonight which we are quite excited about, though that means we're getting closer and closer. Only 7.5ish weeks now! Crazy.

Much Love

you go girl - the drugs are there for a reason - some woman can do it without - some can't - I am in the boat of not doing it without - and those that say back in the day they did it without - well back in the day woman were also knocked out! take the meds - enjoy the experience and be rested and relaxed for the arrival of your wee man!

Agreed Nikki! I took the drugs the first time and labour was basically a breeze. I don't want to remember the birth of my child as a painful one...I want to enjoy it!
Well take care, i'm glad you can get what you want (a.k.a. the epidural) and have fun with the hospital tour.
